Exciting writers

As part of our exciting writers unit, some children chose to present a play based on a book by a New Zealand author.

This story is about Joe the Kakapo by Janet Martin. He is a smart little Kakapo. He lives in Codfish Island at the bottom of NZ. He is a native bird in NZ. His family is nearly extinct. He can't fly.

Pauline Cartwright is a very famous writer.
This is a book about Sam and Tommy. Sam and Tommy get kidnapped by the Snakeman. Sam has to steel food from the angry man.

Sam'n'Tommy get kidnapped by the Snakeman and get lost in the bush with little food. Will they get found? They walk down the river and steal food from a grandad who tries to shoot them.

Sam and Tommy get lost somewhere they don't know. They get lost by the snakeman who stole the car while Tommy's mum was in the grocery store. The snakeman crashes the car with Tommy in side. They have to walk down the side of a river to find food.

Sam 'n' Tommy and the Snakeman by Pauline Cartright is one of our favourite books. This story is about Sam and Tommy getting lost in the wild. They get kidnapped by a man. He is a horrible man with a snake tattoo down his neck. The main characters are Sam, Tommy and the man. Tommy is 3 and Sam is 12 years old.

Sam has a different personality compared to most people, but
Tommy on the other hand is a little rascal. Sam is 12 and 
Tommy is 3. How are they going to get home?

This story is about two boys on an adventure outdoors. Twelve year old Sam has to look after  three year old Tommy after being taken away by a snake tatooed man that they called Snakeman. 
Will they find their way home?

Sam and Tommy get kidnapped by the Snakeman. The truck that they are in goes off the cliff. They find a house with an old man and the old man points a gun at Sam's head.

At the beginning, 2 kids are kidnapped by a mysterious man. They're going to have to work together to find their way back home. But it won't be easy......... In the end, it's like the book hasn't finished yet. But it has.

We really like this book because it contains lots of rich words, and suspense.

Pigs and Deer Hunting

It was the first hunt of my life. I got ready. Got my gun and my knife. Well, not really my gun.

I went to pick up my friend then drove up in the Ford. We’re there.

I had a stretch and put my bag on and put the gun strap around me. We started to walk and it was very very quiet. Well, you never know what you might see.

There was a big big stag in the distance, the biggest one my friend had ever seen. I aimed up at the stag. My friend Mitchell had his gun up just in case, and then BOOM, my first shot at a stag.

Click, click BOOM. 2^nd shot. Bang. It fell to the ground. It had 18 spikes on its antlers. We stayed the night at the camp out. The next day my Dad came. Dad said “We need to go pig hunting.”

We took the dogs. We did not even go 2 km. A 300 pound boar was very very close. The dogs were baling at the pig. It had big tusks. I went to stick it and it ripped my pants so I said “You are going down”. I stuck it in the heart and tied a rope on to the legs of the pig and carried it all the way back.

I said to Dad “I think I am going to do that all my life.”

on the rocks and catching fish

I feel a greasy thick coat

They smell like cooking oil

I can feel the horse’s soft fur through my

finger tips

I can see the wavy fur as the wind blows

On the horse

I can taste fur in my mouth as the wind

I can hear the mud squishing and the horse neighing.

I feel crashing water
