Poets go fishing

Poets go fishing for words

Cantankerous waves crashing on the sea shore.

Poets go fishing for words

Unreeling, unreeling until they match, what did I catch?

Fishing and wishing for words

Poets go fishing for words.

Fishing fishing fishing for words

Words wishing to pop out.

Sweltering people looking for fish to eat.

Hump bump lump hump this rhymes.

Fiery fingers stretched from the cloudless sky.

Poets go fishing for words

Bumpy bumpy bumpy waves, the line is loose cantankerous catfish could not swim which made him feel selfish, unreeling, unreeling, unreeling the line.

Sweltering swordfish stabbing and fighting

Poets go fishing for words

Cantankerous catfish

Catching catching creatures

KERSPLAT!!! Dolphins dive in and out of the water

The cantankerous camel

Rush up legs up pushing hooves in hot sand,

                                             Drop down spit out

                                             “What a rude dude”

                                           Up down round about

                                          “You’re so preposterous”

                                   Lumpy bumpy rides around midday

                                   Humps bump clickity clack KERSPLAT.

Wishing for words

Strike percussion

At Strike Percussion I liked the cup song with the three Fresh Up drinks. It was awesome. I really liked it. The three people's nicknames were Biscuits, Mufasa and Captain Frigglepuss. They had a big set of drums and they were loud. I really liked it.

Drums, drums and more DRUMS

Strike Percussion was amazing. For the introduction they took a drum kit and hung it on frame to make the bang loud. After that they did this rain forest one. They said they could only do it when it was raining outside so we made these actions that sound like rain outside. Later they got five volunteers to come and drum on these logs and it sounded realy cool. After that they said that they would have a quik drink but they tricked us and they started doing the cup song. After that they did a dance with fire and they spread a gas on the fire to make it boom up into the air. Then it was over and we had to go back to class.PS It was LOUD.

Boom boom pow

On Wednesday we went to the hall because it was Strike Percussion day. My favourite part was when they had a stick  and they lit it on fire. They had stuff that made the fire rise like a hot air ballon just take off. Then they were making a rhythm with the stick on fire. It looked a bit dangerous when I just saw it.

Strike Percussion

Yesterday the Strike Percussion played for Waimate Centennial school in the hall.  My favourite part was when they were switching the cans and doing the cup song. The amazing part was when they were spraying  the fire with gas and doing a rhythm. The funny part was their names Captain Frigglepuss, Biscuit and Mufussa.

strike percussion BOOM BBBBOOOOMMMM

Today is the day where the 3 Strike Percussion people came to Waimate Centennial School to perform for everyone at our school. The best thing I liked was the marimba. And it would only work with rain so we had to all make rain noises. IT WAS AWESOME.  Thank you for reading this.

Books, books and more books

It was Wednesday the 9th of April and that day was a special day, because an author was coming to Waimate Centennial school.  It was Julia Cook. After Julia Cook read three stories in the hall it was playtime. After playtime three groups went to Julia Cook because we could get ideas about  writing.I was in one of them. Near the end Julia Cook signed our writing books.

book worm

On Wednesday 9th of April Julia Cook came to our school. She read us alot of stories. My favourite was Soda Pop Head. It was about a boy who people called Soda Pop Head because he never took control of his anger, so when the soda pop gets shaken it doesn't blow.  Now I have to remember not to let my cap pop. She talked to us about a thirteen year old girl who had written a novel. So as she started talking I think  everyone could tell she was American, her accent was pretty cool. She was very inspiring because alot of her stories were about self help. Right thats the end of my story just remember don't let your cap pop.

Loudest drums ever

On Wednesday the 9th three men came to Centennial School. They came in a big van. They brang
very big and loud drums with them. I  thought my ear drums were going  to blow.  They came all the way from Wellington. That is very far away, don't you think. I think the leader was Captain Frigle Puss.

Best band in the world called Strike percussion

On Wednesday the 9th of April I had a band come to my school. They were called Strike Percussion. They came all the way from Wellington which is a long way from Waimate! First they introduced themselves. Their names are Biscuit, Mufasa and Captain Frigglepuss. My favourite part was when Mr Burt one of the teachers at my school and my principal Mr Jury played the drums. It was a competition and Mr Burt won. The show was awesome I hope they can come next year!

Time To Play The Drums, Strike Percussion

It was not cool- it was awesome when they the sprayed fire. They had purple stuff in some spray bottles. They did the cup song with cans with the drink still inside them.It was funny when Captin Fregilpus hit the can off the table and hit Biscuits. My favourite instrument was the drums on the poles. I thought they couldn't reach.

Boom Boom Drums

On Wednesday Strike Percussion came to school. They are a band that plays the drums. They played four different types of drums. My favourite kind of drum was the one with two sets of drums on big poles. My second favourite part was when they set cotton on fire that was on the ends of sticks.

Time to play the drums

When it was Wednesday we went to Strike Percussion in the hall. When I got into the hall there were drums on poles. I liked when they played the drums that were on the poles because it was loud.  They played with sticks. It was the first thing they did.

strike percussion performance

On Wednesday our school saw Strike Percussion. There were three men who came and they had big drums. My favourite bit of it was when they lit a candle thing an fire and then got some spray and stuff and the fire got bigger. And we got to make a rain type noise to make it rain.

Owe My Ears !!!!!!!!!!!!

It was Wednesday 9th April 2014. I payed $2 to watch Strike   Percussion . I thought it was a play. When it was time to go in the hall I knew straight away that it was a band. My favourite part was when Biscuit kept on asking Captain Frigglepuss if it was raining. He said "no". :)

Drums

I thought the fire was going to fall on me.  Strike Percussion is a family of instruments . Our instruments were drums and there was a marimba. It was really loud and a marimba looks likes a saxophone.

Strike Percussion

Yesterday after lunch a group called Strike Percussion came to my school to perform. They are a group that plays drums I think. My favourite part was near the end when they got a stick each, then lit it on fire. Then they got a type of gas and sprayed it towards the fire. It was amazing what happened. At the end they played some drums connected to poles. It was loud!

My second blog post

I heard a noise at the back of the cave and lifted my flashlight. I ran down and screamed.
"Ahhh!!!!"
it was the end of the cave the Death Star was just hanging there.I could hear battle ships firing at me. It broke my flashlight so I got out my lightsabre until I leaped off and jumped on to a meteor. Then I could see someone who looked evil but who was it? It was Darth Vader!!! We had a battle but who do you think won
"Yes!!yes!!yes!!" I screamed
"I won!!" Darth Vader said.
"No!no!no!" So I said "be quiet yappy face" and then I chopped his head off. That should do it". So I jumped to the Death Star. Yeah, I knew I would make it. Boob!!! Boob!!!  It was self destructing "Ahhhhh!!!" so I jumped to the meteor, jumped to the cave and all the way home.

The Great Performance

Yesterday in the afternoon three men came to perform at our school, in the hall with all sorts of drums. They were called Strike Percussion. All three of them had nicknames, one was called Biscuits and the other two were called Captain Frigglepuss and Rufasa. They were all a band. At the start, two of the three men were playing on the wall drums and the other one was playing on one of the drum kits. My favourite part was when they had squirt bottles and sticks of fire. Every time they squirted the fire it makes the fire even bigger. It was the best performance I've ever seen.

Drum mad!!!!!

Yesterday Strike percussion came to our school. First they played drums on bars that they made. My favourite part was when they had sticks on fire and sprayed methylated spirits on the fire.

My poem

Drip drop drip! Goes the sound of raindrops.
Crash, crash, crash! Go the ocean waves crashing on the sandy beach.
The sky is a nice sunny blue as it looks down on us.
Squish, squash, squish! Go the yummy, sour blueberries in my mouth.
Yum yum!

Week 2 Term 1

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

It has been a wonderful start to the new year with “my” new Ruma Kakapo class.

Homework
This week we will start reading homework. Your child will bring home a reading book from their browsing box. If it’s a School Journal, they can choose a story or an article from it and read it.
After reading, they need to fill in their reading diary with the date, title of the book and a comment on the story.
There is also a daily homework sheet for maths this week. We are revising basic facts, so if you think the facts are too easy, it’s just because we are getting back into things.

Class Dojo
If you have signed up for this with last week’s newsletter, you should have received a report on Friday. It would be great if all parents could receive these reports by email. If you don’t have a computer, you can use our classroom computer to sign up. There is also an app that you can download onto your phone or ipad.

Meet the teachers
Your child will have notice to book a Meet the teacher-timeslot next week. Please sign and return to tomorrow, thanks.

Stationery
Thank you for getting the stationery to promptly. For those who haven’t got it yet, you can buy a box for $22 at the school office.

I look forward to meeting you next week. If you have any questions or concerns in the meantime, please see me or ring me at school.

Have a good week,
Annie Rehmann

Welcome to 2014!

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome back to a new school year. I hope that you and your family have had a good holiday. The highlight of my holiday was a climb up to Mueller Hut near Mount Cook with my husband Ralph and my daughter June last week.
The mountains and glaciers were stunning, well worth the1800 steps up to the hut, and the knee-shattering climb (or shall I say, crawl) down.

It is always exciting to start Term 1 with a new class. I hope that your child is excited about coming back to school, even if it means getting up early again…
Apart from welcoming the children who are coming to the senior school for the first time, I would also extend a warm welcome to Lauriann who joins us from Ireland, and Ava whom a lot of us already know through Kiwisport.

This year’s overarching focus is sustainability.  The learning area this term is health. Our inquiry will lead us to learn about how we can lead a sustainable lifestyle, ie food/nutrition, physical activity, relationships with others and physical safety.
We will be spending the first few weeks getting to know each other and creating a positive classroom learning environment.

Stationery
You can buy stationery packs at the office. If you still have items from last year (rulers, colouring pencils etc.) that you don’t need to purchase, you can tell Lenore or Kirsten at the office, and they can take them out of the box.
Can you make sure all stationery is named please, including each coloured pencil. If your child still has a reading folder and/or spell-write booklet at home could they please bring it back as well. Thank you.

Swimming
From tomorrow on, we will be swimming every day at 10.30 am, weather permitting. Please make sure that your child has his/her togs every day, even if the weather does not look promising in the morning. If your child is unable to swim, could you please send a note along. Thank you.

Class Dojo
Class Dojo is a web-based behaviour management system that I would like to trial in Ruma Kakapo this term. It looks appealing to children and sounds exciting to use.

Attached you will find a note with a login to a website that allows you access to your child’s report. You can select to receive a daily report about your child’s behaviour. Children have their own login to change their avatar and look at their report. Please note that only you and I will be able to see your child’s report, nobody else. If you are unable to access the internet at home, you are most welcome to use our classroom computers. It would be great if you could send the attached slip back to school as soon as possible.
Thank you.

I would love to meet you (again) sometime in the next couple of weeks. Please feel free to pop in any time to introduce yourself. You are always welcome to come in and see your child ‘at work’.

Have a great first week,

Annie Rehmann
