Take 5

Take five

On 26th June we wrote another take five story. Enjoy.

Have you ever seen a red dragon that is riding a motorbike, wears a leather jacket and black shades?

It's quite paranormal eh?

You see, it is known as the hearts desire. So if you were a cat, for example, it would be a fish. If you were a dog it would be a big bone.

So next time you are eating some kai (kai=food) outside, keep your eyes peeled for the hearts desire.

Vid comic episode 4

I played my playstaion2. I got up to vid comic episode 4. I need to fight Dr Nefarious. He is an evil scientist. He is the hardest guy you can meet. You have a gun. It is a nitro launcher. It shoots out balls that explode on Dr Nefarious. It starts with green lives, next yellow lives, then red lives.
Then he will die. Then you have to beat red eye clank and he can turn into red-eyed giant clank.
I should be on the last episode because I'm only on episode 4. Dr Nefarious should be dead. It should be on episode 5.
Why did Dr Nefarious die on episode 4?

Matariki

In New Zealand, most people celebrate Matariki. Matariki is the Maori new year.

Some thing's you can do to celebrate Matariki are:
Learn to weave and flax
Make and fly  kites
Share family stories
Learn about the land
Gather fish and kai moana

Matariki is a group of seven, Called a constellation. You can see them thirty minutes before dawn.

Matariki has three names. They are seven sisters, Subaru and Pleiades but it might have more, we don't know.

Matariki is a group of seven it is made up of 500 but we can only see six or seven. That is because sometimes the 7th one goes behind another one.

It starts late May or early June and it ends late April.

Next week our school's kapa haka group is going to the Matariki festival. I am one of the people who are going to Matariki.

One year my grandma and I went out looking for the seven sisters
at dawn. We couldn't find them because they were out the north side of the house. When we looked out the south, west and east side
of the house.

Do you know any other constellations in England?

farming

farming
Farming is a job. You have to do the right thing at the right time or else something could happen to you.
You can't be a famer without the right stuff.
I learned how to drive a tractor when I was 4 and I learned how to drive a combine when I was 6. I learned how to drive a four wheeler when I was 7. I love farming so much.
Every morning I wake up wishing I was doing something on the farm. I sometimes dream about it too. When I'm on the farm I do stuff like check the sheep, check the cattle - all that kind of stuff.
One fun thing I like to do is jump the hay bales.
In spring it is a pretty hard time of the year because it is when all the sheep have lambs. So we have to go round checking all the lambs. We have about 650 sheep. If there is a dead one we just throw it in the pit we've got.
In summer we do harvesting. We have only got 1 header so it takes a while and it's normally really wet. If it is wet you can't harvest.
We mostly plant wheat or barley or pees or triticale or radish.
We only have about 600 acres so our farm is pretty small. If you're wondering we live on a cropping farm. If your wondering what triticale is, it is a kind of crop you can graze sheep or cattle in it.
It looks a bit like wheat but it can't grow very long.

Waimate!

Waimate is a small town in between Timaru and Oamaru in the South Island. Not everyone know about Waimate. The gardens are so beautiful. It makes me feel so happy. The schools are perfect. The animals are cute and soft. The people in Waimate are mostly friendly. What is your favourite state or place?

Pets and Christmas

Once upon a time there were two sisters, one kitten, a puppy and a bunny. They also had a two storey house.
So I think you would like to know the sisters names. Well they were called Milly and Molly. Milly has no pets. The awesome thing was that the next day was christmas day. They were so excited. Milly was wishing that she would get her own bunny.
And Molly was wishing that she would get a puppy but they would have liked a kitten more. But they couldn't have one because  they already had a kitten so it was time to go to bed. So they were sleeping and sleeping until it was morning. They woke up.
They came down the stairs and went into the living room. And they saw presents everywhere around the Chirstmas tree. They went into mum and dads bedroom. They were so happy. So they went outside. They found two cages there milly found a bunny.
So she opened the cage and the bunny ran into milly's arms and snagled up. Then they went to the next cage molly found a puppy then she opened it up the puppy ran into her arms.
Then they went inside to open the other presents. That was the best Christmas ever they said.
What was your favourite christmas like ?

Farming is fun to do

Farming is cool to do.You get to see sheep and cows and all the other animal so, lets get started.

Summer
In Summer we are harvesting. When its full we go up beside the truck or trailer and we drive back home to unload the truck or trailer and it goes up the auger into the huge silo.

All year round we send grain to the dairy shed.

The we burn paddocks.

Autumn

In Autumn we are shearing sheep.
it takes three days to get them all done .
We plough lots too.
In Autumn there's alot to do with tractor baling, working up paddock.
We feed chickens all year round.
All Autumn we are in tractor

Winter
In winter we get heaps of cows from dairy farms and calves too.
They come off the truck into our new cattle yards.
Then we put them in a paddock.
After four days we put them in a chow paddock and we feed them silage and hay because we are short of feed in the Winter.
It is fun on my motorbike because it is muddy.
At the end of Winter the cows go home.

Spring
Spring is the best part of the year. (It lambing time)
Its fun because I get pet lambs.
We look after 20 lambs a year because they have no Mum and that's how I found my best friend Buddy. (my best pet lamb).

Why you should play rugby

Why you should play rugby
Some people like getting muddy and some people don't. And normally after the game it feels like you want to play more. There people get a chocolate bar at the end and you get points. 3 points you get a chocolate bar and a trophy, but you only get to take the trophy home for the week. Then you have to bring it back for the next game. When you score a try it feels real good.

Q Do you want to play rugby now?

Timmy and Tommy's new book

''Timmy! I got a new book,'' called Tommy.
''Oooooohhhhh yay! What is it?'' asked Timmy.
''The unknown egghead,'' answered Tommy.
''It's time to read I guess Timmy''
''Okay. Let's sit down."
"Alright," said Tommy.

"The unknown egghead.
One day, a girl named Sera read an instruction on how to make a friendly egghead.
"That sounds interesting," She said. So she read the instructions carefully, and made a friendly egghead.
"I'm gonna call you Steve!"

That night, when Sera went to bed, the egg came alive! Steve had a evil looking face drawn on him, then he whispered, "How do I get outta here?" a window was left open. Steve spotted the open window, hopped out of his little socket and on to his little, stubby legs. He waddled over to the window and jumped out without a single crack in his shell.

The next morning, Sera was horrified to find her socket empty. "I have to find Steve!" she panicked. So Sera ran into the nearby forest to find Steve.

Three days later, Mr Mason was delivering the papers, when all of a sudden, he realised, that Sera wasn't outside her house. She always was. Mr Mason never found out why. No one did. But....... Some people believe that they saw a walking, talking egghead.

The end?

"I wonder what happened to Sera" said Timmy
"I'm not sure. We will never know." said Tommy

Will they ever find out? Who knows! Oh I forgot to say my line. Now where was I? Oh yeah.
The end.
Was that a good ending?

Artarmama Session 1: Photographs and Interviews

Photos and Interviews by Sophie and Meadow.

Artarama Project Diary

Thursday 7th June

First we talked about a painting of two people working in the old days.  We thought they were working with hay. They had a pot and the man had red knuckles. There was also hay house, more than two people and some trees.

We talked about why viewing art is important.  One of our thoughts was that it gives us great ideas and inspires us to make our own art.

After that we had to go out to Mrs Murray’s car and get about one hundred magazines.  Each person had to look through the pages and cut any green out that they found.

The green magazine pieces are going to be stuck onto a big leaf shape and then they will get glued onto our tree.

We had to pack up the magazines at end.

Artarama Project

All of the senior classes are working with Mrs Murray on a artwork which will be exhibited in the Aigantighe Gallery's Artarama - Festival of South Canterbury's Creative Generation.  It will show work from students up to the age of 18years.  Ruma Kakapo is constructing a tree made from recycled magazines and cardboard.

For each session we have two blog reporters who will keep you up to date on our progress, and two photographers who will also interview the artists and record their ideas about the project.
Here is a photo taken at last year's Artarama Exhibition.

We are ready to start quadblogging!

Today is the official start of our quadblogging with the three schools that are in our Quad 92. You can find links to their blogs on the right side of this blog.
We have been practising how to write quality comments to someone's blog post. We started off by watching this wonderful video made by children from a school in California by clicking on this link: http://cherrytree.primaryblogger.co.uk/a-quality-comment/

Then we practised our blogging skills on each other's posts. You can read the comments we wrote to Margaret's and Jack's posts.
We came up with a learning intention and success criteria on how to write an effective comment. We wrote a shared comment to our friends in Ruma Kea. Now we are ready to comment on our quadblogging buddies.
The focus blog for this week is Mount Annan Christian College - Mrs Zantides' Class.

Happy quadblogging everyone!
